The Gran Guardia is a majestic late Renaissance building situated in the central Piazza Bra in Verona where the famous Arena is also located. It is conceived as military construction with a wide colonnade where troops were inspected in bad weather, and a main floor designed for the Academy of Weapons.
Construction works, which started in 1610 based on a project by Architect Domenico Curtoni, were completed in 1853, after a few interruptions, under the supervision of Architect Giuseppe Barbieri. Today it is Verona’s leading exhibition venue, which has hosted some of the most impressive exhibitions of the last decade.
